How much electricity does a TV use?
Short answer: A modern LED TV uses about 30–50 W (32 inch), 60–90 W (43 inch) or 90–150 W (55 inch). Watching 5 hours a day, a 43 inch TV uses about 9–14 kWh a month. A set-top box and Wi-Fi router left on 24×7 add another 10–20 kWh a month.
| Device | Typical watts | kWh/month |
|---|---|---|
| 32" LED TV (5 h/day) | 30–50 W | 4.5–7.5 |
| 43" LED TV (5 h/day) | 60–90 W | 9–13.5 |
| 55" LED/QLED TV (5 h/day) | 90–150 W | 13.5–22.5 |
| Set-top box (24×7) | 10–20 W | 7–14 |
| Wi-Fi router (24×7) | 6–12 W | 4–9 |
| TV standby | 0.5–1 W | 0.4–0.7 |
Tip: Switching the set-top box off at the plug overnight saves more than the TV's own standby.
