How is the Tamil Nadu electricity bill calculated in 2026?
Short answer: TNPDCL bills domestic homes every two months. If you use up to 500 units in the cycle, the first 200 units are free (from 10 May 2026), units 201–400 cost ₹4.70 and 401–500 cost ₹6.30. Above 500 units only 100 units are free and higher slabs apply up to ₹11.55. Example: 400 units = ₹940; 500 units = ₹1,570; 501 units = ₹2,048.40. There is no fixed charge for LT-IA domestic.

FAQ
Is 200 units free in Tamil Nadu?
Yes. From 10 May 2026 domestic consumers who use up to 500 units in a two-month cycle get 200 units free (TNERC Order No. 5 of 2026). Above 500 units, 100 units stay free.
Is there a TNEB tariff hike in 2026?
No. The Tamil Nadu government did not implement the 2026 inflation revision, so the LT-IA rates of TNERC Tariff Order No. 6 of 2025 still apply.
