How many units does an electric scooter take for a full charge?

Short answer: Units per full charge ≈ battery kWh ÷ charging efficiency. A 3 kWh scooter battery takes about 3.3 units from the wall (90% efficiency), costing about ₹26 at ₹8/kWh in India, or about $0.60 at the US average of 18.3¢/kWh. Most e-scooters run 80–120 km per charge, so running cost is roughly ₹0.20–0.35 per km (about half a US cent per km at 18.3¢/kWh).

E-scooter home charging (0–100%)
Battery sizeUnits from wallCost (₹8/kWh · US 18.3¢/kWh)
2 kWh~2.2~₹18 / $0.41
3 kWh~3.3~₹26 / $0.60
4 kWh~4.4~₹35 / $0.80

Tip: Charging from 20% to 80% uses about 60% of the full-charge units.

Using this calculator outside India? Outside India? Pick your currency at the top of the page and enter the per-kWh rate printed on your bill. Typical residential averages: USA 18.3¢/kWh (EIA, July 2026; California 33.6¢, Texas 15.9¢), UK about £0.25/kWh, Germany about €0.38/kWh, UAE about AED 0.23–0.38/kWh, Canada about C$0.13–0.20/kWh and Australia about A$0.30–0.35/kWh. The kWh result is the same in every country; only the cost changes.

How to use this result

Use this to plan the monthly charging load for your electric scooter. Charging frequency and battery size matter more than charger appearance.

This is a preliminary planning estimate. For certified audits, use site measurement and nameplate readings.

FAQ

Does charging an electric scooter at home increase the electricity bill much?
Usually only 30–80 kWh a month for daily commuting, which is similar to running a refrigerator. Check that the extra units do not push you into a higher tariff slab.
Is this result exact?
It is an engineering estimate using user inputs. Exact result needs actual meter/nameplate data.
Can I use it for audit report?
Yes, as a preliminary calculation and supporting estimate.

EV billing tip

Track EV charging separately for one month. It helps you understand whether the bill increase is from transport energy or home appliances.

Accuracy note

The result is a planning estimate. Use nameplate wattage, measured runtime and current tariff for professional-level accuracy.
